It's STILL the best Who discography around!
There is an updated version of the original discography out there. I finally got it and I'm just as impressed with it a I was with the original book. I thought the revised edition would have a different ISBN # but it doesn't seem to have it. If you're a Who fan you NEED this book!

The best Who discography around!
Describes in detail all Who releases through 1981, with information on labels, pic sleeves, versions, etc. I wish Ed Hanel would update this book!

Wilderness on the Rocks
Published in Paperback by Ned Ludd Books (May, 1991)
Author: Howie Wolke
Average review score:

A critically important look at how public lands are managed.
Anyone, anywhere who cares about our Western public lands should read this title. From the welfare ranchers to Big Timber, Big Oil and industrialists in general, all the rape-and-scrapers take their due hits in Wolke's book. We need more guys like Howie Wolke, not fewer.

An insightful look at National Forest Management
This book was written shortly after my wife and I spent 3 days in the wilderness with Howe. His knowledge of wild things and passion for it's preservation were evident during this time. Howe is well known in wilderness preservation circles; not to the liking of the government run U S Fish and Wildlife Service and U S Dept. of Agriculture. Howe is the friend of Wilderness and you will be awakened to what is really going on in our National Forests.

Wings for My Flight: The Peregrine Falcons of Chimney Rock
Published in Paperback by Pruett Publishing Co. (July, 1999)
Authors: Marcy Cottrell Houle and Robert Michael Pyle
Average review score:

Wings For My Flight
What an amazing book! The author writes a fabulous novel filled with wonderful messages and insights. I absolutely love her writing style and the topics she writes about. I definitely recommend reading her other books because they are just as wonderful. Additionlly, I have actually met Mrs. Houle in person and she is an amazing, warm woman.
(Wings for My Flight is still in print by Pruett Publishers.)

Heartwarming story about Peregrine Falcons
Heartwarming story about conservation of the majestic peregrine falcon. Witty, funny, and tragic. A great quick read.

Writer on the Rocks: Moving the Impossible
Published in Paperback by About Time Press (November, 1999)
Authors: Linda Tatelbaum, Bonnie Farmer, and Paul Caponigro
Average review score:

So much heart!
This is a writer with so much heart! I wouldn't live off the land if you held a gun to my head, yet I was deeply inspired by this woman's life and work. Tatelbaum presents her unusual lifestyle--she's a longtime homesteader--as a metaphor for creativity: both its curses and its pleasures. A wonderful book, especially if you're a writer or painter or musician--someone who knows how hard it is to keep going in the face of rejection.

inspiring piece of writing
Linda Tatelbaum has a real gift with language- of taking the most mundane tasks of ordinary country life and transforming them into something that provides tremendous meaning and inspiration. The format of the book- much like a college curricula- is both stimulating and progressively enriching. One does not need to be a "homesteader" or "back to the lander" to appreciate the true meaning of "moving rocks"

Yankee Rock & Ice: A History of Climbing in the Northeastern United States
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (01 January, 2002)
Authors: Laura Waterman, Guy Waterman, and S. Peter Lewis
Average review score:

This is the definitive guide....
Guy, age 67 climbed his favorite mountain ridge near his home in Vermont, one last time. A forthcoming collection of their writings, some of which supplement this book, will be published soon.

The best history of climbing ever.
"Yankee Rock & Ice" is the best climbing history I have ever read for any region or era. The authors went to great lengths to get the history from primary sources. Straight from the horse's mouth as it were. They talked to dozens of old-time climbers to record their memories before they pasted-on. Sadly, many have, but their reminiscences are recorded here. This is a history in the true sense of the word. Many climbing histories give simple narratives of when, by whom, and how climbs were done. "Camp 4" by Steve Roper and "Defying Gravity" by Gary Arce are two that come to mind. The authors of "Yankee Rock & Ice" don't simply give a account of when classic climbs were done, they also scrutinize the history according to the times. They examine the past by the current customs, techniques and technology available. But, this isn't a stuffy history text you read in school, the stories are lively and extremely funny. I was laughing as loud as when I read John Long's stuff.

Young Men With Unlimited Capital: The Story of Woodstock
Published in Paperback by Scrivenery Press (August, 1999)
Authors: Joel Rosenman, John Roberts, and Robert Pilpel
Average review score:

Read it twice
I am not a book reader, probably to my discredit. But not only did I read this one, I read it twice. It is a truly fascinating account of how Woodstock came to be. After reading it, one will be more amazed than ever that the event happened at all, once one sees all that these two guys overcame or endured to bring it about. It is a captivating and entertaining book.

Been There; Didn't Know That
I was at the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair. I was young.

This book is an amazing, and surprisingly humorous, inside look at the machinations I never saw. The sometimes bizarre efforts that made Woodstock possible.

Even if you don't agree with the Woodstock sentiment, you should buy this book as a reference to THE icon of 1960s America.

100 Block Rock
Published in Paperback by Arsenal Pulp Press (June, 1999)
Author: Bud Osborn
Average review score:

Hundred Block Rocks
Never having had an interest in traditional poetry, Bud Osborn has opened my eyes to a new art form. He writes of (and for) people who've never felt safe: chronic drug-users, prostitutes, the mentally ill, and all other outcasts. His poetry encourages you to shed any prior conceptions you might have of "failures" and see how beautiful these people really are. These poems really touched me.
